Andrew McLean

Candidate for Hinkler

I'm Andrew McLean, and I’m running as your Greens candidate for Hinkler in the upcoming federal election.

I’m a father of three and I’m committed to creating positive change in my community. I currently run a not-for-profit housing initiative, but my journey has taken me through a variety of roles; I’ve been a youth worker, a pastor, a concreter, and for ten years, I ran my own mobile mechanic business.

In 2022, I ran as the Greens candidate for Hinkler, and I’m standing again because I believe our political system needs a shake up. We desperately need a positive alternative to the major parties, one that truly puts people first.

The issues I’m focusing on are close to home for so many of us – the skyrocketing cost of living, the housing crisis, and the worsening climate emergency. Too many people in our community are struggling just to make ends meet, counting every dollar, with the cost of essentials like groceries, electricity and rents and mortgage repayments growing out of control. And on top of that, the climate crisis continues to worsen, affecting our region in layered, tangible ways.

The Greens will take immediate action on the housing crisis by capping rent increases and delivering cheaper mortgages by regulating the banking sector. We’ll also make supermarket price gouging illegal to bring down the price of your weekly grocery shop. We will make GP visits free again and put dental and mental health in Medicare. We can do all this by making big corporations pay their fair share of tax.

We’ll halt new coal and gas projects and invest in renewable energy to create long-term, sustainable jobs here in Hinkler. Our region has the potential to be a leader in clean energy, and I want to ensure that we’re taking full advantage of it. The Greens are the only party with a serious plan to sustainably transition our energy sector and support all workers as they move to a different part of the mining industry or onto a new career path.

The Greens refuse donations from big corporations. We don’t sell out, we’re working for you.

We can’t keep voting for the same two parties and expecting a different result. This time, vote 1 Greens.
