Sally Spain

Candidate for Moncrieff

Hi, I'm Sally. I'm your Greens candidate for Moncrieff in the federal election.

I'm running because I'm passionate about protecting our precious places and improving everyone's quality of life

I grew up on the Gold Coast Hinterland and have a deep love for our magnificent area, with its unique climate and rich biodiversity. I have campaigned to preserve Australia's vanishing natural heritage and to protect animal rights, and will work to ensure the koala, our Queensland emblem, survives.

If we build our economy on the principles of long-term sustainability and science – rather than short-term self-interest and political point-scoring – we can protect both our regional ecosystems and have a prosperous economy.

The Gold Coast is at significant threat from climate change. We know there are solutions and mitigation strategies available, and I will fight for our region to see the best practice implemented here. We can have affordable electricity for everyone, powered through a sustainable transition to renewable energy - but we need politicians who want to implement it.

Our local public schools should be fully funded; families are paying too many out of pocket expenses for what ought to be a fundamental right. In a rapidly changing world, TAFE should be free and never privatised. Everyone should be able to afford to retrain and have a better life.

I want to live in a Queensland where ordinary people can realise the dream of owning their own home through affordable housing, where renters are treated fairly, and where no-one has to endure prolonged homelessness. The Greens have a plan to bring down the cost of mortgages, by regulating the banks. We’ll fix the renting crisis by freezing, then capping rent increases, and building public and affordable housing.

1 in 3 big corporations don’t pay any tax in Australia. The Greens will make big corporations and billionaires pay their fair share of tax and with that revenue we will fund the essentials to live a good life.

We can’t keep voting for the same two parties and expecting a different result. This time, vote 1 Greens.
