Rohan Eastley

Candidate for Meander Valley Council

Hi, I'm Rohan!

I'm a community volunteer, a disability advocate, and a proud fifth-generation Meander Valley local – and I'm running as your Greens candidate for Meander Valley Council.

I've lived in Deloraine my whole life, and I intend to keep showing up for it. I live with a physical disability, which has taught me compassion, resilience and determination, and given me a strong resolve to advocate for changes that deliver better results for my community.

I volunteer weekly at Vinnies, help run the Deloraine Table Tennis and Boccia Club, and teach local school kids to play Boccia – a sport I compete in at state level as a Tasmanian Institute of Sport para-athlete.

I consider myself an empathetic person who values all people regardless of their experiences and backgrounds. I understand adversity, and I will be an active listener who strives to make positive changes and fix real issues that impact real people.

I've been advocating for changes to Jetstar's airline passenger assistance rules, which limit assistance to two people per flight. Everyone should be able to live their life how they want to live it, without unfair restrictions enforced by private enterprises. Closer to home, I've helped local business owners arrange access ramps so that all persons unable to use stairs can access their buildings.

My focus for Meander Valley is on accessibility to businesses and supports, increased funding for services like Meander Valley House, and environmental protections for our agricultural lands and natural waterways – while recognising the need for community growth and development.

Hope to see you on the campaign trail,
Rohan
