How we will pay for our plans

Our plan is fully costed

We can make life affordable by making big corporations pay their fair share.

The Greens will tax the big banks, gambling companies and big corporations to make housing affordable and fund the public services we all need.

Australia's big banks are the most profitable in the world. They make $30 billion in profit in a single year. If you're paying off a mortgage, $200K of your money goes straight into your bank's pocket.

Gambling corporations profited $7.3 billion in gambling losses in 2025. They engage in predatory practices and make billions off working people's wages.

We'll tax these big corporations more, so you pay less.

The Greens will also introduce an ultra-wealth tax to bring down the cost of buying a home.

We will double the tax property investors pay, when they own over $5 million in investment houses they don't live in. Ultra-wealthy investors who have multiple homes can afford to pay a bit more, so first home buyers pay less.

Tax the big banks

We’ll put a quarterly levy of 0.1% on Victoria’s share of bank liabilities, raising an extra $3+ billion a year. It’ll target the big five banks: ANZ, CommBank, Westpac, NAB, and Macquarie.

Tax the gambling industry

We’ll increase the tax on online gambling to 25% (like they have in the ACT) and stop the revenue from going to racing, double the tax on table games at the casino, and raise the taxes on pokies to 75%. This would generate more than $2 billion a year.

Tax the coal and gas giants

We’ll double the existing royalties on coal and gas, raising about $80 million extra a year.

Introduce an ultra-wealth tax

The Ultra-Wealth Tax will increase land tax for property investors who own more than $5 million in residential investment properties, raising about half a billion a year.

Tax property developers

The Greens will increase the tax on property developers' windfall profits when land is rezoned, to 75%,
