Hi! I’m Giz Watson, your Greens candidate for the federal seat of O’Connor this election.
I’m a former WA State MP and have devoted my life to protecting WA’s environment, advocating for social justice and working to create a peaceful and just world.
There are many interlocking issues of concern to people in O’Connor, and the Greens offer solutions that are fair to people and the planet.
Housing affordability and homelessness have become acute problems due to long-term governmental neglect. The Greens call for urgent action such as rental caps and investments in social housing. Cost of living is causing great stress to families and the Greens advocate for fairer pricing for farmers and controls over supermarket price gouging.
The climate emergency continues to escalate and our society’s most vulnerable will suffer the most. The Greens are the only party calling for the determined responses we need to prevent irreversible environmental and social damage. While the major parties still fail to take this crisis seriously, the Greens demand no new coal or gas extraction so we can meet our carbon reduction targets.
Farmers are on the front line of climate change as they strive to achieve food security and positive environmental outcomes. To enable farmers and rural communities to thrive in the long-term, innovative projects such as locally driven land care initiatives must receive adequate backing.
Our forests and woodlands are also threatened by changing weather patterns. The Greens are committed to retaining and restoring these rich ecosystems that sustain WA’s unique biodiversity as well as providing critical environmental benefits such as healthy waterways.
This election we have an opportunity to elect more Greens to parliament; to push the government further and faster on the issues of housing, cost of living and climate; and achieving stronger protections to ensure a rich heritage for tomorrow’s children.
A better future is possible – together we can make it happen.
